Introduction

  • The Carbon Budget Model was developed by the forest carbon accounting team of the Canadian Forest Service. The reference implementation is called CBM-CFS3.

    • The libcbm model is a re-implementation in python and C++ that runs as a python package. It is based on CBM-CFS3 and was also developed by the Forest Carbon Accounting team of the Canadian Forest Service.
  • The forest carbon model eu_cbm_hat is a python package that simulates an allocation of harvest for EU countries. Projections of industrial roundwood and fuel wood demand are given as an input and the available stock at each time step is used to allocate harvest, the output is given in the form of disturbance tables. The resulting anthropogenic disturbances are then run inside the libcbm model besides other natural disturbances. Scenarios can be defined to change input parameters and allow for example a change in allocation rules or changes in future natural disturbances and resulting salvage logging.

    • eu_cbm_hat depends on the libcbm model.

    • It uses pandas data frames to transform and load data.
